“There is no scarcity of opportunity to make a living at what you love; there’s only scarcity of resolve to make it happen,” says motivational speaker Wayne Dyer, and I couldn’t agree more.
That’s why I love Facebook! My friend Jennifer Abernethy, author of The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Social Media Marketing, holds classes at the Gannett office building in Tyson’s Corner, VA, for entrepreneurs who want to learn more about social media tools. One thing she said, in particular, really struck me: “If you want to grow your business, and make some great friends, get on Facebook and friend as many people as possible.”
She was right! Since last spring I have slowly added friends — and friends of friends — and wineries, and famous journalists and my old buddies from summer camp. My goal is to add about 100 friends each month. (I invite you to ‘friend’ me today: www.facebook.com/hopekatzgibbs)
I tell you this tale because one of my new friends is Susan Utell, a documentary filmmaker and editor in San Francisco who is a friend of a friend of a friend of a friend. Small world, right? Well, we got to talking and after several video conferences by Skype and hours on the phone, we decided to turn Truly Amazing Women into a documentary. Her husband, creative director, director and writer Bill Groshelle, will be working on the project, too.
The script is being written and we’ve hired a videographer. So if you are chosen to be in the book, you just may be asked to be part of the film!
We’re currently in the process of raising funds. So if you know someone who we should talk to about that, do let me know.
Just goes to show you never know who you might meet!
